Ok so this is going to sound strange but … I posted the other day about how I think my Cerave moisturiser is breaking me out. I recently tried a new moisturiser (Cetraben) and it seems to have only made my skin worse. For this reason I want to use moisturiser just once a day and sunscreen instead of moisturiser in either the AM or PM. I know eventually I need to find a moisturiser that doesn’t worsen my acne but this will just have to do for now (using it less)
Of course the obvious choice is to do sunscreen in the morning and moisturiser at night. I use LRP sunscreen but it makes me look sooo greasy. But it doesn’t break me out. It’s not sunny outside anymore and I know people on here tell you to wear SPF all year round but this is winter. Can I instead wear my sunscreen at night and my moisturiser in the morning — so that when I go out in the day I don’t have to look greasy from the sunscreen but I also prevent myself from breaking out since I’m no longer using moisturiser as much?
I’ve seen people say don’t use sunscreen at night, that’s why I’m asking, but my scenario is a little bit different.
*** SUMMARY I’m aware sunscreen at night provides no benefit in protecting from the sun. I just want to wear it as an alternative to my moisturizer since it doesn’t break me out. And I want to do this in the evening because I look greasy when I wear it.
As an aside to this, if anyone has recommendations for a moisturizer that is essentially equivalent to the European version Anthelios 50 La Roche Posay Sunscreen… I would be so unbelievably grateful.
I’m trying to understand if you want to know whether the sunscreen you apply at night will give sun protection in the morning. Long story short, no, because you are meant to reapply sunscreen every 2 hours; the film will wear off by morning.
I think they want to use the sunscreen at night as a moisturizer bc it doesn’t clog their pores like their other moisturizers. they would not be using sunscreen in the morning in this scenario from my understanding
Have you tried that moisturizer to see how it works on your skin? “pore-clogging” ingredients aren’t black and white. Your skin won’t necessarily run to develop pimples at the first exposure to Shea—you may be able to tolerate the formula. If you could sample this one somehow, you should.
I have very acne-prone skin, that’s all. But yes I might give it a try it’s just that LRP is quite expensive so I’m trying to be careful
Edit: What I’m trying to say is that I think the LRP sunscreen I use is quite simple, but then all the moisturisers have random added things like shea butter, niacinamide etc so it makes it a bit harder to know what to purchase considering the price point
Honestly, just keep looking for a good nighttime moisturizer. Buy the travel size so your not wasting your money and product. There is something out there that will work for you.
Check the UV index for your specific area, this can help you decide if you need to use the SPF. there is information on line about at what point it isn’t necessary for certain parts of the world.
Also, you mention something about shae butter being pore clogging. Do you find that it clogs your pores? Or did you read that it does? Formulation is important, and trying things is the only way your going to know if it works, for you. Good luck
I would try to find a sunscreen that works for you during the day. UV rays exist and can harm your skin also during winter. And there are also better moisturizers than sunscreen to use during the night. I’m sure you can find some within the same brand of sunscreen you’re using. I’ve been using ChatGPT and apps like Skinsort to find products with similar or certain ingredients. So of course you can do whatever you want, you don’t need Reddit’s permission. But what you want to do doesn’t make sense.
It’s not recommended to use an SPF as a primary moisturizer. A moisturizer’s primary role is to hydrate your skin and includes emollients that form a protective barrier over it to help lock in moisture—skin hydration is really important. Your sunscreen isn’t formulated to serve those roles.
If you apply your SPF without moisturizer, your skin may become dehydrated over time. If you are set on using an SPF as your primary moisturizer, you may want to apply a ‘Hydrating Alcohol-Free Toner’ or ‘Hydrating Serum’ before you apply your SPF to hydrate your skin.
Regarding wearing SPF in winter, you should even in winter because all day-light inherently contains UV Light, which penetrates the skin and causes cellular damage and collagen degradation.
Girl just get better products. Research ingredients and figure out what does and doesn’t work for your skin. And get an Asian sunscreen. Won’t feel or look greasy and way cheaper than western ones. I like skin1004 centella sun serum
