Does anyone apply moisturizer made by Aquaphor?

My Derm recommended I use something like Vaseline as a moisturizer (I have rosacea/cystic acne-prone skin). I got Aquaphor instead since I heard it’s the same as Vaseline but it will soak into your skin.

But I put on a thin layer this morning and it does not soak in - my face has been shiny and greasy to the touch all day.

For those of you who use Aquaphor as a moisturizer, how do you apply it without your face looking shiny and greasy?

Aquaphor by nature will look shiny and greasy because it has petrolatum. Most people use it at night to avoid that look during the day

Aquaphor just sits on my skin, even small amounts. It’s a mystery to me how people can put Aquaphor or Vaseline on their face at night and not have their face stick to their pillow and get it everywhere. How do they keep it out of their eyes and hair while sleeping? I feel like I’m missing something, lol.

Right? I just applied it again tonight and it doesn’t seem to soak in whatsoever, it just looks like I’m smearing white paste all over my face. Eventually, it changes from white into clear, so I look like I’m covered in a thick layer of sweat, and I’m sure it’s gonna get all over my pillowcases tonight.

I just don’t get it, isn’t Aquaphor supposed to soak into the skin, isn’t that why people suggest it over Vaseline?

I have used Aquaphor as a moisturizer for like 7 years now. At night, I use a metric fuck ton and look like a slimeball. If I wear it during the day, which isn’t too often, or I use it for an hour or two and wipe 90% off, I use way less and “stretch” it so it covers all of my skin. Love that shit.

It’s not supposed to soak into your skin, it acts as a barrier protection without clogging your pores.

  • I only apply it at night time if my skin is recovering from a breakout. And always make sure to cleanse in the morning followed by my regular moisturizer. Hope this kind of helps

As others have mentioned, Aquaphor is for the night. Moisturizers can have three types of ingredients: humectants that attract moisture to the upper layers of the skin, emollients that soften the skin, and occlusives that seal the moisture in so it doesn’t evaporate. Aquaphor is heavy on occlusives, which is why it’s quite greasy and shiny. For the day, try going with something more balanced depending on your skin type. Products like the La Roche Posay Toleriane Sensitive can be a good choice for the day (recommended by my derm). Just keep in mind that anything labeled as “rich” will likely be more suitable for the night.

I know this thread is old. But I use it as a moisturizer and apply it when my face is damp. If I apply it when my face is dry my skin does not absorb it. I then just massage it around until I don’t look oily or anything
