Eye cream before or after moisturizer

I am new to proper nighttime skincare. I’ve always just used serum followed by moisturizer. Recently, I received a retinol eye cream as a gift and want to add it to my routine.

Should I apply it before or after the serum and moisturizer, or maybe in between?

I have tried applying it under everything, but it seems to get rubbed all over my face when I apply the other products, so I’m not sure how much actually stays in the under-eye area.

I am a little curious about what brands of Moisturizer and eye cream you are using. In my experience, you should apply products based on thickness or texture. The lighter products should always come first. So, based on your experience you should do the cream last since it is heavier than the moisturizer

First, cleanse your face. Then, apply your usual serum. Now for the star of the show: the retinol eye cream! Dab a tiny bit (like pea-sized) around your eyes with your ring finger. Let it dry for a minute. Finally, smooth on your moisturizer to lock everything in. Remember to pat the cream in, don’t rub, to avoid irritation. Nighttime is the only time for retinol since it can make your skin sensitive to the sun. Easy peasy!

Here’s the recommended sequence for your nighttime skincare routine, featuring your new retinol eye cream:

  1. Cleanse: Remove dirt, oil, and makeup to prepare your skin for better absorption of products.
  2. Retinol Eye Cream: Apply a pea-sized amount around your eye area, gently patting it in with your ring finger.
  3. Serum: After the retinol eye cream absorbs, apply your serum, which penetrates deeper layers of the skin.
  4. Moisturizer: Seal in moisture and nutrients with a layer of moisturizer to complete your routine.
