How Long Should I Wait After Applying Moisturizer Before Using Sunscreen?

Hey folks,

I just started paying more attention to my skincare routine and am a bit confused about the order of applying products. I usually apply a moisturizer in the morning, but I’m not sure how long I should wait before putting on sunscreen. Should I apply the sunscreen directly on top of the moisturizer, or is it better to wait a few minutes for the moisturizer to absorb first?

I want to make sure I’m getting the most protection from the sunscreen without messing up my skin! Any advice or tips from those who have experience with this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Keep it under 5 minutes because no one has time for that when you’re in a hurry to leave the house.

Wait about 2-3 minutes after applying moisturizer before putting on sunscreen. This lets the moisturizer soak in and helps both products work better.

In the morning, I really don’t have time to wait. I use a serum that absorbs quickly, and my moisturizer is sunscreen. I wait between three and four minutes before applying my makeup.

Depending on your skin type and the sunscreen you use, not all of them are moisturizing enough to double as a moisturizer.

Application Order for Optimal Skincare

For the best results, apply your moisturizer first, allow it to absorb for a few minutes, and then apply your sunscreen.

This approach ensures your skin is properly hydrated before sun protection. The moisturizer provides a smooth base, helping the sunscreen to spread evenly and work effectively.

Here’s a simple routine to follow:

  1. Cleanse Your Face: Start by removing any dirt or oil.
  2. Apply Moisturizer: Let it absorb into your skin for a few minutes.
  3. Apply Sunscreen: Use a generous amount and reapply every two hours if you’re outdoors.

Note: Sunscreen should be the final step in your skincare routine before applying makeup.

If possible, wait 15 minutes before using it; otherwise, apply immediately after moisturiser.
