Hello! I promise I’ve been reading posts on Reddit for hours and hours about this and I can’t get my head around it, because in every post and every comment, someone says something different.
My morning routine is as follows:
Gentle cleanser
Moisturizing toner
Snail essence
Vit C (Ascorbic Acid)
Moisturizer
Sunscreen
A few days ago someone told me that I was doing it wrong, because Vit C should be the first thing I apply on my face, after drying my face. I have been doing it these days with no problem, now, I have dry skin, and it is horrible to let my skin dry without any product…
I want to know if letting my skin dry and applying vitamin C first is more beneficial than if for example, I put my moisturizing toner first (I have read many comments that said toners and essences first, then vitamin C, so I’m confused).
What is the right thing to do and what will give the best result? Thank you!
One of the reasons why people recommend putting on vitamin C before your other steps is that vitamin C is kind of an asshole and is reluctant to penetrate the skin putting it on without any other products underneath can better ensure that it gets into your skin. You can put on your vitamin C serum after washing your face, let it dry down, and then apply the rest of your skincare as normal. It’s not known for certain that putting on other stuff first will interfere with the penetration of vitamin C, but it’s a possibility.
However, this is about ascorbic acid (Aka l-ascorbic acid — different names, same thing). Vitamin C derivatives are generally less fussy.
Thank you everyone. I don’t want to risk the effectiveness of the Vit C so I’ll keep putting it on my face as a first step, it’ll take some getting used to.
It’s close to impossible to follow the cleansing routine for both day and night. You can’t use toner every day, you can’t exfoliate every day, you can’t use retinol or spot correctors every day or at the same time. You need to make sure you are not allergic to or have sensitive skin before using Vitamin C! (THIS IS A MUST) After wasting a lot of money and more importantly TIME. DAILY ROUTINE: CLEANSE (DAY) MOISTURIZE and ALWAYS USE SUNSCREEN NIGHT ROUTINE REMOVE ALL MAKE-UP CLEANSE 2XS USE A (NIGHT) MOISTURIZE The rest is a mess …use once a week…use at night only… use during the day for a week…slowly add once a day for a week. Too much too soon will dry…and/or irritate… your face… blah blah blah *Sigh just cleanse moisturize and be sure to use sunscreen. Unless you want to spend lots of money and time trying to find the right products for you and the correct “daily, nightly, and/or weekly” routine.
