Is there a sunscreen that is suitable for black girls that doesn’t cause white cast or piling?
YESSS ITS MY TIME TO SHINE! I have been logging and reviewing black girl sunscreens for years, and below is my anti Blasper (Black Casper) list.
Drugstore moisturizers with SPF:
- Cetaphil oil control moisturizer (purple cap)
- Cerave ultralight moisturizer
Drugstore Sunscreens:
- Sunbum (in the yellow container)
- Black girl sunscreens
-
- Aveeno protect + hydrate (it’s in a light orangish tube)
Luxury Sunscreens:
- Supergoop unseen sunscreen (this is my holy grail)
- Shishedo ultimate sun protector lotion (this is SO GOOD I alternate between it and supergoop)
- Supergoop play sunscreen - I buy a big bottle and use it for face and body it’s lovely
Asian sunscreens
- Biore AquaRich watery essence
- Biore aqua rich
I have video reviews on my social media as well, because I am PASSIONATE about sun protection. DM me and I can send them to you, also.
STAY AWAY from supergoop mattescreen, the Neutrogena ultra sheer dry touch (purple label) the Cetaphil mineral sunscreen (yellow top) and the hero sunscreen (mint top) . They all turn me into Blasper
I use the Neutrogena hydroboost 50spf and don’t have any casting issues as a black guy
Black lady here and one of my faves is Skin Aqua UV Moisture M8lk (blue bottle. No cast, natural finish and doesn’t feel heavy on the skin. For heavy sun days, I like Biore UV Aqua Rich. These are both Asian sunscreens.
I’m dark skin and Asian sunscreens are my go to. Lots without Iron or Titanium dioxide have no white cast and they’re often cheaper than the nicer American sunscreens (15 bucks vs the American 30+ bucks).
My current favorite is Hygee Vegan Suncream. It goes on thick but dries nicely with a dewy but not oily, light finish. Absolutely love it because sometimes I find the lighter watery gels to be not great with coverage.
I am white but my bestie is Black and we both use (and love!) the CosRx Aloe Soothing Sun Cream. It’s SPF 50, no white cast, doesn’t pill, and doesn’t irritate her sensitive skin. Not a bad price either!
I don’t think there’s a big following for this sunscreen, which is fine, but fwiw: neither of us could stand the Biore Watery Essence sunscreen, even though I know that’s popular on here. Maybe that’s helpful context idk.
I’ve been using La Roche Posays Anthelios AOX Antioxidant Serum SPF 50 and/or their Anthelios Melt-in Milk SPF 60 for about a year. I’ve only experienced piling with the melt-in milk if I have a thick moisturizer underneath.
Beauty of Joseon sunscreen! The matte one is good, and then any sort of Korean GEL sunscreen stick because it has no color at all mostly.
