My shoulders have a lot of tension suddenly

Hi, my shoulders used to have less acne, but now they have a lot more of it. There used to be just one or two spots, but today there are a ton! The odd thing is that while my face and body have significantly improved, my shoulders have inexplicably gone worse. Does anyone have any idea why this is happening and how to solve it?

We welcome any advice.

My shoulders are suddenly very tense. This can be due to stress or anxiety. Stretching, yoga, and relaxation techniques can help relieve this tension. It’s important to practice these regularly to help calm your mind and body. If the pain persists, consider seeing a doctor.

I have the same problem. I don’t even realize I tense my shoulders so much until they start hurting. Massages are great! Personally I find two other things helpful:

  1. Swimming. Relaxes my entire body, a major anxiety relief in general. If you can get into a pool / spa that has one of those high-pressure waterfall thingies to massage your shoulders, or just a jacuzzi, that’s perfect.
  2. Stopping every once in a while to ask myself if I’m tensing my shoulder muscles or any other part of my body in general, and mindfully telling myself to stop, relax, breathe.

Hello Dario, It’s frustrating when acne shifts from your face to your shoulders. I suggest this might be some potential causes and solutions:

Possible Causes:

  • Hormonal Changes: Hormonal fluctuations can affect body areas, even if facial acne improves.
  • Friction and Sweat: Activities like exercise or wearing backpacks can irritate the skin.
  • Product Residue: Hair products or laundry detergent might cause reactions.
  • Underlying Condition: Rarely, shoulder acne could indicate another skin condition.

Solutions:

  • Cleanse Regularly: Shower after workouts and use a gentle body wash.
  • Exfoliate Gently: Exfoliate shoulders weekly to remove dead skin cells.
  • Over-the-Counter Treatments: Use products with benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid.
  • Avoid Irritants: Use fragrance-free laundry detergent and wear loose clothing.
  • Hydrate: Moisturize to prevent dryness.
  • Consult a Dermatologist: Seek professional advice if acne persists.

I’ve seen various skin issues over time and can share that acne on the shoulders can be influenced by factors like hormonal changes, sweat, and friction from clothing. It’s possible that changes in your routine, stress, or new products could be affecting your skin differently. To address it, try using a body wash with salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide, and ensure you’re wearing breathable, clean clothing. If the problem persists, consulting a dermatologist can help identify any underlying issues and provide a tailored treatment plan.
