Tension Headaches After Applying Tretinoin?

Hi forum members…

I started using tretinoin a few weeks ago for my acne, and I’ve noticed that I get tension headaches almost immediately after applying it. I’ve been searching online and found some case studies and personal stories from others who have experienced the same thing, but it doesn’t seem to be a well-known side effect. Has anyone else here had this issue? If so, how did you manage it? I’m considering stopping the treatment if the headaches persist, but I’d like to hear from others first. Any advice or insights will be greatly appreciated…

Yep, I’ve been there too. Started tretinoin, and bam, tension headaches like clockwork. It’s not super common but you’re not alone! I found using it every other night helped. Also, moisturizing well and staying hydrated seemed to lessen the headaches for me. If it keeps bothering you, maybe chat with your doc.

Managing Tretinoin-Related Headaches:

  • Consult Your Dermatologist: They can offer personalized advice, potentially adjusting your tretinoin regimen or prescribing medication for headaches.
  • Gradual Introduction: If you’re starting tretinoin, try using it every other night to help your skin adjust.
  • Moisturize: Keeping your skin well-hydrated can reduce irritation that might be contributing to headaches.
  • Over-the-Counter Pain Relief: For severe headaches, consider over-the-counter pain relievers like ibuprofen or acetaminophen.

If headaches are severe or accompanied by other concerning symptoms, seek medical advice promptly.
